Souvenirs
One of our ladderites was kind enough to send this memorable game, which was played thirty years ago in the famous annual match between the New York Manhattan Chess Club and the Philadelphia Franklin Chess Club. The participants, Maj. Hanham, an old master (note the Hanham variation in the Philidor Defense,) and the youthful Jackson, who at the time was about 15 or 16 years of age. After the game an eye-witness tells us that the major was so infuriated that he hurled all the pieces to the floor.
