The preliminaries tournament, to decide the finalists for the 1922 championship tournament of the Los Angeles Chess Club, is rapidly nearing completion, the few remaining unplayed games being scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. In the following game Stasch Mlotkowski, who is looked upon as a sure winner of the 1922 local championship, shows how to play the Black side of an Evans Gambit, his opponent being C. H. Whipple, Jr., who once held the local club championship, the game being one from the pending preliminaries tournament.
