Repeating Soviet Propaganda. The Soviet was attempting to disqualify and replace Fischer with Petrosian to retain its monopoly on the title, but Lundstrom is cherrypicking his sources. The poor soviets are just innocent victims, for instance, demanding an ILLEGAL 35 grand guarantee. That wasn't in the contract and that's why Ed Edmondson, resentfully, refused to post it. But this column is not about informing the public of the full facts, such as the “White Book” officials in Belgrade produced, which attempt to convince the public of “telegrams” that were sent by Fischer… should have provided photos of these supposed communications, but in fact, they didn't. They provided only text, which Byrne mentions, as “quoting Fischer as saying” and “allegedly” which means there was no actual proof. In the age of the printing press, the Soviets were more than capable of providing images, photos, pictures, graphics of the actual telegrams. But they didn't. And, during the same time in question, Ed Edmondson of the USCF was becoming frustrated because the Soviets and organizers in Belgrade refused to communicate. Refused to sit down and talk things out. But Belgrade organizers claimed they had a whole heap of “communication.” They are not telling the truth. Fischer, his lawyer, Edmondson confirm the LACK of communication was so severe, that Fischer only learned of a date of disqualification (a Saturday morning deadline) through news paper reports. In other words, there were no telegrams back and forth as claimed in that fiction “White Book” published by the “Chess Informant” magazine.
