Fischer Leads Ratings; Reshevsky Is Second
By Merrill Dowden
Three guesses as to who's on top in the new ratings of America's top chess players.
Of course, you'll only need one guess, because everybody knows that Brooklyn's famous Robert Fischer, American champion for four consecutive years, has a firm grip on the coveted No. 1 position.
At that, Fischer picked up only one rating point over his mid-year rating of 2640, while his nearest competitor, Samuel Reshevsky of New York, was gaining 12 points. This left Fischer 11 points ahead in the continuing duel between this country's only grandmasters.
