Chess For All By G. Chesters
CHESS has a programme of its own for thirty minutes every Sunday on Network Three. Besides talks on the history of the game, on topical tournaments, or merely humorous recollections, listeners can follow games played over the air between two pairs of masters who fully discuss their intended moves. At the moment, Bobby Fischer (once again U.S. Champion) and Leonard Barden are playing Peter Clarke and Jonathan Penrose. Their discussions are very useful.
In the last programme, Len Barden interviewed many stars of the chess world, asking them about their childhood days. Many were keen on sport, especially soccer; and many played other board-games at a very early age. Nearly all were good at maths., though Gligoric and Fischer preferred languages.
