Our game this week was played in the recent Pennsylvania State championship tourney which was won by Norman T. Whitaker, a patent lawyer of Washington, D.C. United States Champion Marshall awarded the brilliancy prize to the winner of this game. Whitaker is a former University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia champion, a former principal of a Philadelphia High School, and has for several years been rated near the top among American experts. He represented this country at the 1928 Olympic tourney at The Hague. In 1927 he won the open championship tourney of the United States Chess Federation. In the 1921 Atlantic City masters' tourney he placed ahead of Marshall, whom he defeated in their individual game. He is one of the best simultaneous performers in the world.
