After receiving Belgrade's unanticipated withdrawal from organization of the world championship match, FIDE president Dr. Max Euwe (now in the Antipodes on his world tour), has decided to make the substitute selection open to those countries which had previously bid. Limited of course to the first 12 games, as was the case with Belgrade. Reykjavik is apparently holding firm on the last 12 games of the series. Montreal, one of the original bidders and fourth on Fischer's list of preferences, comes into consideration again.
Incidentally, it is worth noting that two other bids were made by U.S.A. centres (besides Chicago's $100,000, but received too late for the Dec. 31 deadline: Brooklyn, $100,000, and Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, $175,000. However, it would not have made much difference as neither principal would likely accept playing in the other's country.
