The Boston chess championship originated in 1934 when Franklin J. Sanborn directed, so this is the silver jubilee of this event. John Curdo and Jeffrey Goldstein are the defending co-champions. And one of them has possession of a large, impressive trophy which was donated by South Boston's Lithuanian Club. F. J. (Jack) Trayers, perennial champion of Salem, won this eventful game from Harlow Daly, Sanford, Me., in the third round of the 1959 New England tournament.
