STECKEI Editor Dr. Alexander Alekhlne, present world's champion, has accepted the new challenge sent to him by Jose R. Capablanca, former world's, champion. Dr. Alekhine suggests that the return match be held some time between August 15 and September 15, 1931. Ten teams of eight men each are competing in the present tournament of the Metropolitan Chess League of New York. The four leading teams are: Btuyesent,-SH-ft: Marshall, 5-0; Manhattan, 5-1; Empire City, 4-1. The defeat of the- strong Manhattan Chess club by the Stuyvescent Chess club was the surprise of the tournament. A recent match between the Harris-burg Chess club and the Reading Chess club resulted in a win for Harrisburg by a score of Z'.z-b'.i. The following game was the only win scored by Philadelphia in the recent London - Philadelphia Cable Match. S. Mlotkowski, playing on Board 6 for Philadelphia, offered the King's Oamblt, a rather unusual debuc for serious match play, but the gambit was declined by E. G. Sergeant, the London player.
