The Morning Call's Chess and Checker Column Problems, Games, Positions in End Games and News Items Will Be Welcomed W. II. STECKEL. Editor Championship Tournament The Lehigh Valley and City championship chess tournament will be In the stages of the fourth round this coming week. All the games are moving along at a rapid pace and we predict that the tourney will have an eerly ending as almost every one with few exceptions have a loss or a .drawn game charged to their column.
Comments are to be made on the exceptionally fine chess that is being played by C. Koch, who defeated .V. Shuler and A. Warsau In the first and second round respectively and T. Frydell a resident of Washington, D C. who defeated R. Rockel and A. Weiss. Both Mr. Rockel and Weiss were rated to defeat the Washinston contestant.

Champion Again Wins By defeating the Danish representative Aron Nimzowitsclrof Copenhagen, Dr. Alexander Alekhine of Paris placed another victory to his credit in the nineteenth round of the International Chess Masters tournament at the Hotel Teplice, Bled, Yugoslavia.
The world's champion conducted the black forces in a Caro-Kann defense and, by brilliant play, scored the game after thirty-six moves had been recorded. Nimzowltsch, for the s?cond time In the tournament met defeat at the hands of the Franco-Russian master. Although Rudolph Spielmann of Vienna defeated E. D. Bogoljubow of Triberg In the sixth round, the German expert divided the point) in today' round by drawing a well p ayed game with the Austrian.. In consequence, Bogoljubow moved into, second place. Isaac Kashdan,' of New York, now In third place, met with stout resistance on the part of G. Flohr ; of Czechoslovakia. - Kashdan had the black side of a queen's pawn opening tried hard to square accounts.

The Western Chess association will hold its thirty-second chess congress at the Hotel Tulsa, Tulsa, Okla., f-om October 5 to 13, 1931. The events v.lll consist of a championship tournament, majorminor, ladies, rapid transit and problem-solving contests. The following three games are from the Lehigh Valley and City championship chess tournament which is now in progress at the local Y. M. C. A. Two exceptionally fine end game problems can be made out of the first two game. In the first game starting move 57 Black to play and win. In the second, starting move 66 White to play and win.
