"IT'S YOUR MOVE" The Morning Call's Chess and Checker Column Problems, Games, Positions in End Games and News Items Hill Be Welcomed W. H. STECKEL. Editor The- following game between Alexander Kevitz and Capablanca was played in the New York tournament. Whether Capablanca lost or sacrifice? a pawn on his sixteenth move is a much disputed question.
If sacrificed intentionally, then it was one of the deepest combinations in chess. Kevitz had a labored position after taking the pawn, but the game was not lost and he had a valuable pawn to compensate for the loss in position.- The Cuban brought about a winning position In the end-game by fome very subtle play, but It is doubtful whether the win can be attributed to the sacrifice of the pawn earlier in the game.
