Considerable Interest will- be shown within the next month , when there will be keen competition for tha hih honors In the chess circles of the city. Tha Y. M. C. A. which .always has In its lobby some of Allentown' best chess enthusiasts have sponsors'! roch year a tournament to decide a city champion. It is expected that -uch well known players as A. Hermann, C. Koch, A. Rex, W. Warsau, W. H. Steckel, and other players as well known as these to enter and fight for the honor of being champion for ihe coming year.
A committee has been arranged and la composed of Roy Rockel, Chas. Troxell and W. H. Steckel as chairman. A fee of 50 cents will be charged which will be used to cover expenses.
The committee has decided to give three prizes to those who place first, second and third. The tournament will start the week of September 7th and all entries must be recorded by Saturday, September 5. The tournament will be a two-point knockout affair to give mediocre players a fair chance to get several games with Interesting competition. This means that each player will play as long as he has not lost two games Entry blanks can be gotten at 'the local Y. M. C. A. or from any one of the above committee. The two kings with a single reacatlng piece can be transposed 250,000 times. With the first 10 moves the total of possible ways rises to 169,000,000,000, followed by 15 more naughts. On the basis of these calculations it Is possible to estimate the total number of possible moves. A rather conservative estimate fixes this total at 20,609,637.968, followed by 78 naughts. It is impossible to convey a adequate description of the magnitude of these figures, as they defy human Imagination.

United States chess champion and captain of the victorious United States team which won the Hamilton-PueU trophy from eighteen other countries competing lrithe team tournament of the International Chess Federation at Praue, arrived on the Rocham'jeau and was given a warm reception by officers and members of the Marshall Chess club. Marshall had with him the cup donated by the Hon. Frederick Oustavus Hamilton-Russell of London, which had been won twice by Hungary p.nd once by Poland. While on board the ship Marshall celebrated his fifty-fourth birthday, which was observed by officers and passengers of the ship. We have Just recently learned that Israel Horowitz, a member of the United States team broke his collarbone in Europe.
. Nothing daunted by this mishap he played the last four games winning three and drawing ihe other. The following games are from the recent International Team Tournament at Prague. All of the games are played by members of the champion United States team.
