CHESS Games — Problems By Paul L Cromelin THE READER'S GAME Our readers are in even disagreement on the line open to Black red Higgins and John C Rolff voted for 7 B-B6 but Albert R Dwyer and J J Casagrande voted for 7 QxP So a deadlock exists The" votes cast by these four players will stand - but further voting will be necessary in order to break the tie So send in your ballots on the two moves in question either B-B6 or QxP The diagram shows the position with the readers to make their seventh move The Chess Editor White 1 m 15° gg-’ OH w H lai 7 ' z a JS i if B I Vi z ii Il — Black The Readers All votes must be in the office of Tire Daily Argus before next Wednesday MOUNT VERNON CHESS CHAMPION Two games played at the Mount Vernon-Chess Club during the last week brought- the tournament to a close insofar as the title of club champion is concerned By deflating P’ Stevens Jr Milton Krieger completed his schedule and earned the first championship of the local club Max Hacker his nearest contender for 'the first position was held to a draw by Paul Cromelin and lost a tic for the title -by a half-point Krieger's score was 9 — 1 Hacker’s 8 Q — l’i The champion's losing point was taken from him by Hacker who finished the play with the record of being the only undefeated entrant his lost points resulting from draws with Barnhart Stevens and Cromelin.
And obviously Hacker was the only person to win from Krieger It is probable that the third position will go to John W Barnhart Krieger has informed us he is willing to accept challenges for the title from all comers play to be governed bycertain- restrictions to be set by the club directors And it is - our opinion that the glove will be tossed back to him by at least three players of the club body who would enjoy meeting him in match play J HE CHESSBOARD The chessboard for this week presents two games in which the chess editor took Black’s part They were played in the championship round robin at the Mount Vernon Chess Club.

CHESS LESSONS Several entries Wave been re-celved for the series of Monday night chess lessons which will begin at the Mount Vernon Chess Club Monday With Haul Cromelin as instructor the course will cover the various openings touch on several theories and end with an exposition of end-play A ten-weck membership in the club will be extended to all non-members who subscribe to the class The entire charge will be $2 JOSE R CAPABLANCA The American Chess Bulletin informs us that Jose R' Capablanca contemplates a tour of the United States His plan is to leave Cuba late this month for California via Panama After appearances in Western cities he will turn East The former world's champion is open to engagements at simultaneous play against individual opponents or teams consultation games match games with clocks and lectures.
