Chess Problem the Problem No 70 is a deceptive three-mover by the former chess editor of the Los Angeles Times who died last fall. Some of his contributions appeared in British Chess Magazine Black — 3 pieces White — 7 pieces White to move and mate in three. The least likely move on the board and probably the last to be looked at was the key to last week’s chess problem. Mattison vs Alekhin The recent death of Armand H Mattison at the Age of 34 was a loss to chess He had gained considerable distinction as an endgame composer His most notable achievement was the winning of the individual championship at the Olympiad in Parisi in 1924.
