MILLER, Jr. FRANK' MARSHALL. retired champion of the United States, la enjoying the limelight these days, for the canny chess veteran is leading the strong field of players tilting for premier honors of the New York City Marshall Chess Club—one of the greatest chess organizations in the world—by a score of Younger players such as Theodore Dunst, Fred Reinfeld, Milton Hanauer and A. E.
Santasiere are at the heels of the ex-champion, but unless Marshall loses outright to Harold Susstn&n of Brooklyn College and K. O. MottSmith, Harvard star several years ago, he has the club title clinched. Probably the tourney will be over by May 17, at which time the winner of the National Chess Federation tournament for women will receive her award, and the presentation will be a dual affair—the crowning of two champs. Meantime the battle continues and the young masters are praying for the grand master to slip—Just once! Social Chess Lounge Open.

CURRAN and the officers of the Washington Social Chess Divan extend a cordial Invitation to all chess players In the DUk trict to visit the Social Chess Lounge at the Parkside Hotel and indulge in an occasional game. The equipment is ample and the beautiful boards and chessmen will delight the heart of any lover of the royal game. Magazines and books galore are present for the student or beginner. The lounge never closes and any chess club in the District may obtain permission to use its facilities for special meetings by contacting the chess director or writing to the Social Chess Divan, Parkside Hotel.
Tournaments may be scheduled in the lounge on any night of the week. Instructional lectures will be featured weekly by the chess editor of The Star. Read this column for current activity.
