Franklin Chess Club News The Franklin Chess club, of Allen-town, held a meeting on November 21 at the home of Ralph Fenstermaker and President Stephen Wells presided.
After a large business meeting several very interesting games of chess were played in which C. Kahler, a visitor participated with much enthusiasm. The club wishes to also mention the fact that six of the eight members of the club participated in the simultaneous exhibition given by Barmie F. Winkelman, of Philadelphia, in the local Y. M. C. A. The following games were played in the championship tournament of the Mercantile Library, Philadelphia Black now proceeds to tie white up. . (c) The only move. (d) PxP was essential for white. The rest is a matter of routine.
Three Remain in City Tournament The semi-finals of the Allentown city championship tournament were played on Tuesday evening in the local Y. M. C. A. Two games were played in which Hennv Martz drew with Roy Rockel and Armin Herrmann defeated W. H. steckel. Bv Rockel was drawing his game R. dropped from further competition as two points less eliminate a contestant. The three remaining players each have lost l1- games and in the pairings for this Friday evening at 8 p m. H. Martz will meet W. H. Steckel. A. Herrmann gets a by. Club Member III Charles Geary, one of the most active players in this section, was re moved to the hospital during the past week. After which the troll posted a string of profanities, confirming there was never any genuine sentiment of “compassion” for Mr. Fischer, rather an intent to inflict further defamatory remarks.

This ongoing work is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of Robert “Bobby” Fischer who passionately loved and studied chess history. May his life continue to inspire many other future generations of chess enthusiasts and kibitzers, alike.

The photograph of Bobby Fischer (above) from the March 02, 1956 The Tampa Times was discovered by Sharon Mooney (Bobby Fischer Newspaper Archive editor) on February 01, 2018 while gathering research materials for this ongoing newspaper archive project. Along with lost games now being translated into Algebraic notation and extractions from over two centuries of newspapers, it is but one of the many lost treasures to be found in the pages of old newspapers since our social media presence was first established November 11, 2017.
