MILLER, Jr. ALEKHIN, who regained the world championship chess title after the conclusion of the twenty-fifth game in the scheduled 30-match series, continues to display superior form, Increasing his lead by seven outright wins. The current score now stands: Alekhin, 11; Enwe, 4; drawn, 13. The semi-final round of play was booked for Amsterdam last evening.
MARSHALL CHESS CLUB, New York City, one of the strongest chess clubs in the world, whoee splendid quarters are the result of the benevolence of one Gustavus Pfeiffer, Houbigant perfume magnate, recently celebrated the growth of its organization from several score to 130-odd members at a banquet. J^IRECTORS for the ensuing year of the Correspondence Chess League of America are being ballotted on by the postal players under the secretariat of Walter F. James, 219 East Main street, Cherokee, Iowa. The latest issue of the C. C'. L. A. Bulletin says that affiliation of the North American Correspondence Chess League with the C. C. L. A. is pending. The N. A. C. C. L. is a California postal league that has gathered into its fold top players from all sections of the continent. The passing of Henry MacMahon was a mortal blow to the Chess Reporter, and the demise of its oorollary postal league is to be expected. On page8 of James’ Bulletin appears an item by Samuel Reshevsky under the caption: “The Lessons in the First Five Games of the World Chess Match.” Sammy certainly runs astray, for he says, “The Slavish defense still finds its greatest champion in Dr. Euwe ... that Euwe plays with greater confidence and ease and handles the openings better than Alekhin . . . the challenger (Alekhin) has not, so far, shown the expert form which will be necessary to win the title . . . Dr. Euwe displayed not only a great knowledge, but also a great skill in the openings” (intimating that Alekhin didn't) . . . And Sammy by now knows that as a prophet he should become a rainmaker. gRITISH CHESS MAGAZINE seeks a successor to Business Manager R. H. S. Stevenson who recently wedded Vera Menchik, woman chess champion of the world. The ill health of Stevenson necessitates a speedy change. B. C. M. is too fine a “pub” to fall by the wayside. The famous Christmas Congress held annually for the last 17 years by the Hastings and St. Leonards Chess Clubs at Hastings. England, begins on December 28. Probably Reshevsky and Fine will meet in this tourney.

Tomorrow night at 8 o'clock the lounge features its weekly “open house guest night” and players from all rlnbs and sections of the District are welcome to use the facilities of the lounge without charge. Friday afternoon at the lounge the Interhigh Chess Association will play round No. 3. six high schools competing en masse. The public is welcome.
