Your Move Notes About the Mount Vernon Chess and Checker Club By PAUL CROMELIN The Mount' Vernon Chess and Checker club which meets at 36 South irst Avenue- on Thursday nights under the sponsorship o£ the local -Recreation Commission will begin its first annual intramural chess tournament this eve-ing.
Eighteen players have entered the tournament already and more are expected before 8:30 tonight at which time the tournament en-‘ tues will be closed All players in this city regardless of other club affiliations are invited to enter The players will be divided into two groups according to strength in order to provide for more even competition Much interest in the coming play was evidenced at last Thursday’s rieeting when in spite of the heavy rain 26 members attended and four new members were enrolled In the club Mrs Beatrice Schroef-fei president of the club and who has had to miss a few of the meetings due to illness in her family returned to the fold and presided at the meeting.
Many voluntary contributions toward the purchase of suitable prizes were made Robert Reichert offered to donate a prize to the group in' which he is entered and Harry Bradbury announced that he and Paul Cromelin would present a prize for brilliancy during the tournament The draw for the first 'round will be made tonight and play will commence as soon as the pairings are announced A round will be played rn each Thursday night until each p'nyer has played one game with all of the others in his or her group which will take about eight or ten weeks Anyone who cares to watch the tournament is invited to do so Starting next week chess problems will be published in this column for the benefit of the many chess players in this vicinity.
Anyone wishing to have a problem published is invited to submit it to file Daily Argus and general discussion will bo welcome among chess players It is also planned to publish a game or two from each round in the tournament for those interested in the games but who will not be able to attend during their progress Editor’s Note “Your Move” will henceforth appear every Wednesday on this page.
