BY PAUL J. MILLER, Jr. LUCK, an impish pawn of circumstance, although nine times out of ten the result of foresight, training and applied ability, continues to favor Mrs. E. R. Shepard in the battle for the feminine crown of District chessdom, with the perfect batting average of 5 matches played and 5 matches won. Mrs. Anna Bran, with two victories to her credit, is the only other contestant who has endured no defeats to date, but she is behind in her game schedule. At the cloture of round t Mrs. Shepard had garnered bn pfessive wins from Mrs. Vivian Jeffers and Misses Maud Sewall and Mary Owens. Mrs. Edel Klttredge defeated Dr. M. Fitzgerald and Mrs. Jeffers. Maud Sewall, through an oversight, stepped into a neat trap laid by Dr. Fitzgerald and dropped a game in short order. Complete standings after round 2: D. C Wnui'i Chess Championship.
