BY PAUL J. MILLER, Jr. CENTRAL HIGH practically has the Turover Chess Trophy In the bag. With only two matches left to plav—and these are with Woodrow Wilson, which portends no stiff opposition— Central has a splendid record. To date the "chess team champs" for 1935 and 1938 have annexed 32 match games and 8 team victories.
Capt. William Reynolds is eager to pH his cohorts against any school quintet in the District. Judging by past performances. there can be only one outcome—defeat for the challenging five. Roosevelt Is occupying the runner-up niche in the current tournament of the Washington Inlerhigh Chess Association with an average of 18 wins, 11 losses and 1 draw.
Next is Western with a tally of 10 points, followed by Tech, Wilson and Eastern bring up the rear. The final clash between Central and Roospvelt yielded the former its thirtysecond victory. Individual scoring: central vs. Roosevelt.

QMAR KHAYYAM players of the George Washington University Club met informally veterans of the Pour C's last week end to garner valuable experience from the hands of the old maestros. President Mahmood Taher says the champion of the university tournament will be elevated to the club’s presidency for the ensuing year.

May 11 Is the date set for the baptism of the Paul Morphy Chess Club by the Capital City Chess Club . . . the score will be no runs, no hits and plenty of fun for the Morphy unit. Hoffman, Burlew. Hervey and Hesse are a few of the Washington players entered in the Correspondence Chess League of America's national and sectional mail tourneys . . . Dr. George Hervey lost his postal match with Dr. John Burlew. Agriculture Chess Club Is having ah intraclub title fray.
3urch, Sturges and Hoffman are mixing it up . . . two sections of four players each are combatting for premier honors. WASHINGTON'S only exclusive chess lounge opens this week at Parkside Hotel.
The game room is large, well lighted and cheerful. A light huff ceiling and a deeper buff for the walls give the club lounge a ritzy appearance. The tile flixir will be covered with Spring matting and folding Inlaid rheas boards with Staunton pattern chessmen will be Installed. Also, there will be a number of separate folding leatherette boards and several Inlaid one-piece chess boards. A couple of folding Inlaid boards have been ordered In planning the social chess lounge It Is the Intention to have a modern game room with new equipment—the very best that ever has been designed for chess play.
No card games or any other games will be permitted in the lounge. .This rule makes the divan exclusive and obviate the tendency to mix chess with bridge poor policy for a firstclass chess club. Visit the lounge the latter part of thLs week. Meantime you can become an active member for $1.25 per month or $3 a quarter.
The fee includes all Instructional lectures and exhibits and all privileges. Future weekly lectures will have a tariff of about 50 cents, so you can see that the membership rate is a genuine bargain. Mail your check to the Social Chess Divan. Parkslde Hotel. Ladies are welcome.
