O. A. HOLT Minnesota chess experts have enjoyed their annual state tourney-day every Washington's birthday, Feb. 22, for nigh on to 50 years! While no definite word has been received from the officers of the association, it is expected the historic event will continue this year unabated. R. G. Konkel, last year's champion, is in the air force. A goodly number of the promising young stars are in the various services. Gas rationing and transportation may affect the attendance, especially of those living at a distance. These conditions are disturbing but not paramount.
There still will be plenty of high grade talent available for the staging of a good and Interesting tournament.
