NEWS FROM-SACRAMENTO Our friend J. B. Get writes: Am Inclosing a Utile Information for you if you .wtnh to make use" of it In your column. We held a small Victory tournament tUI summer with 15 entrants pl Ing for Defense Stamps as prlrea. Hera is the result of the five prlte winners: I 3 3 , 6 W. L. D, Score J. B. Oct 3 -1 1 .7 J 4-2 'a M. O. Meyer H X 8. Applegati 0 1 8. Koten '. 0 H. P. Thornton o o 1 .3 Am inclosing a game copy, said tamt being a tough one. Incidentally, we now have a small chea column in the Sacramento Union (Sunday paper) which at present covers only such chess news as wa can rake up and also game scores from our local club and oih-ers. We, sometimes run short of newi and material but have made out so far. Chess activities In general seem to be faring well In Northern California even in these times, Intercity matches ar few but will become mora plentiful after the war. I have been making tentative Plans lor a tournament to decide a North ern California champion each year, tournament to be held in Sacramento and including everyone from about Stockton north. This Idea has gone over well everyone I have approached, but, of course, nothing can be done until the war is won.
Also hope to get some sort of a ehes league to working for the clubs up her to sponsor tournaments and matches, I feel there Is far from enough chess activity in California to satisfy those of us really Interested in the game, hence my efforts at promoting it. I haven't the slightest idea of what goes on down south, but due to your column and the larga clubs in the heavily populated dlstrlcta I believe there la plenty of varied cheaa activity. If we can get more interest and activity up here in the next lew years, then Join that with your activity n the south, chess can really ba built up to something In the State. I have a - set of chess type for the newspaper on the way and we soon will have a problem or end game each Sunday, which will lend a more chesslfled air the column. Also our 1943 championship tourney starts on Nov. 4, with 16 entrleg MORE POWER TO YOU, MR. OEE.

'til the world understands why Robert J. Fischer criticised the U.S./British and Russian military industry imperial alliance and their own Israeli Apartheid. Sarah Wilkinson explains:

Bobby Fischer, First Amendment, Freedom of Speech
What a sad story Fischer was,” typed a racist, pro-imperialist colonial troll who supports mega-corporation entities over human rights, police state policies & white supremacy.
To which I replied: “Really? I think he [Bob Fischer] stood up to the broken system of corruption and raised awareness! Whether on the Palestinian/Israel-British-U.S. Imperial Apartheid scam, the Bush wars of ‘7 countries in 5 years,’ illegally, unconstitutionally which constituted mass xenocide or his run in with police brutality in Pasadena, California-- right here in the U.S., police run rampant over the Constitution of the U.S., on oath they swore to uphold, but when Americans don't know the law, and the cops either don't know or worse, “don't care” -- then I think that's pretty darn “sad”. I think Mr. Fischer held out and fought the good fight, steadfast til the day he died, and may he Rest In Peace.

After which the troll posted a string of profanities, confirming there was never any genuine sentiment of “compassion” for Mr. Fischer, rather an intent to inflict further defamatory remarks.

This ongoing work is a tribute to the life and accomplishments of Robert “Bobby” Fischer who passionately loved and studied chess history. May his life continue to inspire many other future generations of chess enthusiasts and kibitzers, alike.

The photograph of Bobby Fischer (above) from the March 02, 1956 The Tampa Times was discovered by Sharon Mooney (Bobby Fischer Newspaper Archive editor) on February 01, 2018 while gathering research materials for this ongoing newspaper archive project. Along with lost games now being translated into Algebraic notation and extractions from over two centuries of newspapers, it is but one of the many lost treasures to be found in the pages of old newspapers since our social media presence was first established November 11, 2017.
