AMERICA'S GREATEST CHESS EXHIBITION The writer wishes to express his sincere thanks and appreciation to those who so willingly aave ol their time and service to the aood cause of the British War Relief by participating in play and contributing financially in the simultaneous exhibition in which he participated last Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Hollywood Athletic Club.
He would like to have the participants send in their names and addresses in care of (this column so that the acknowledgment of their valued service to the causa may I be more formally expressed. Fawcett. 31 4 CHESS CARNIVAL Program plans are now complete for the biggest chess carnival ever held In the San Gabriel Valley, which will take place on Sept. 20-21, at Santa Anita race track's beautiful clubhouse, under the sponsorship of Recreation Chess Club of Arcadia.
Known as the Second California Chess Carnival, the event is expected to draw chess experts from all over the West to compete for an unusually large list of valuable prizes. Play will start st 1:30 each day, continuing all afternoon and evening, with intermission at 6 p m. and evening play starting at 7:30. according to J. B. Roe. tournament manager. The program is as follows: Saturday. 1:30 P H., Rapid Transit play for J. K. Reed Trophy; 2 p m., Ladies' Rapid Transit lor trophy: 2.30 ?m.. Club Team Matches Trophy for nasi winner: 3 p.m.. Junior contest Gold Cup; 7:30 pm.. Rapid Transit W. O. McFarland Trophy; 8 p.m., Ladles' Contest Arcadia Chamber of commerce Trophy; also club team matches continue. Sunday. 1:30.
